How to create a peer Assessment Activity

To create a peer assessment in the learning portal, use the built-in Workshop activity. It allows students to submit work and evaluate their peers based on criteria you define, resulting in two separate grades: one for their submission and one for the quality of their peer reviews.

Step-by-step setup

  1. Go to your course and click Turn editing on at the top right.

  1. Click Add an activity or resource in the relevant section.

  1. Them go to the Activities section

  1. Find and click on the Workshop activity

  1. Add the Workshop details
  • Type a workshop name, for example: Peer Review: Project Proposal.
  • Add instructions to explain what students need to submit.

  1. Set up grading

Choose a grading method, such as:

  • Accumulative grading
  • Rubric
  • Comments
  • No of errors

  1. Decide how marks will be divided. For example:
  • 80% for the assignment submission
  • 20% for the peer review

  1. Set availability dates:
  • Submission start and end dates
  • Assessment start and end dates

Note: You may tick the “Switch to the next phase after the submissions deadline” option to allow the phase to change automatically once the submission deadline has ended.

  1. Click Save and display.
