# Extend an assignment submission deadline

1. Log in to the **eLearn/ODL portal** and open your module.
2. Find and open the **Assignment** whose deadline you want to extend.
3. Select **Settings** at the top of the assignment page.
4. Expand **Availability** and enter the new **Due date** and time.
5. Check the **Cut-off date**. If it is enabled, move it to a time **after the new due date** so students can still submit. The due date marks later work as late; the cut-off date stops submissions altogether.
6. Click **Save and display**. Check that the new deadline appears correctly on the assignment page.

**For an extension for one student or group:** Use an assignment **override** or individual extension instead of changing the deadline for everyone.
